getting started

hi, here’s the starter post.   The idea of this is to give written snapshots of Ruth as mother and person, with Tom thrown in now and then.

I’m hoping you will post any questions and that Hugh and Jinny and anyone else who wants to will add comments that come to them.

Many of these will be brief: Bad drivers were Mr. or Mrs. Zilch.  Someone behaving badly was an ass.  long words were often given new pronunciations (idiosyncrasy I can’t even say the right way.  She’d have been right there with “apology” in “a fish called wanda.”)

Some will be a little longer: When she was young she’d walk along the Assiniboine River with her father, listening to the snow squeak underfoot.  Her father was deaf, I’m not sure if he heard the snow but earlier in his life he must have.  She adored her father who doted on her.  The Assiniboine and the Red rivers ran through Winnipeg, many of the big homes in the city (including the Glassco) were along the river, yard running down to the water.
